The Jokes, They Write Themselves

Did you know that the White House has a flickr photostream?? Yeah, they're not all gems but for every, President Obama talks to Prime Minister Blah Blah Wazhisnuts, there's a President Obama talks to a fake pirate.
'I think some new ARRRRRRt work would really jazz this room up.'

In a slightly related note I suggest you read this Planet Money article about the ecconomic system behind all the Somali pirates that were so big last month. People like Rush Limbaugh try to act like it's just 6 teenagers in a speed boat but they're actually highly organized, financed and well planned out business ventures with a very high rate of return for investors.

"Think of it as everything you would need to go into the cruise ship business," Pham says. "Everything that you would need to run a cruise ship line, short of the entertainment, you need to run a piracy operation."

2 Great Tastes

Through years of therepy I've gathered the strength to be able to admit it...I love all those shitty auto tune songs. It started inocently enough in 2000 with a little Kasey and JoJo but along with so much of our youth I was never able to turn away.

Some of you must agree because that shit is still everywhere. Even on a mother fucking boat.

So why not...lets bring another great player to the table, my friend and yours, Barack Obama.

Highly recomended.

It's a Dog, GET OVER IT!

I know it's bad.
The economy's in the shitter for reasons even Planet Money can barely make intelligible, there's Iraq, and torture and high waisted pants are back in fashion but are we so hard up for a good vibe that we need to collectively slaver all over this only moderately cute dog??

Plus, I'm sorry Sasha and Malia or Ted Kennedy or whoever came up with it, but Bo is not a good name for a dog. Especially if the dog's last name is Obama.
You have to think these things through!

Just For Fun

Thanks to special correspondent Kendra!

Is this bunny supposed to be a middle aged, lady librarian bunny? She's kind of disproving for a portent of spring. And mauve? Not really anyone's color.
None the less, adorable.

Yes We Can...Eat All That Sushi, Keep the Sake Coming!

via Gawker

For me, there's never enough sushi or enough Obama, so I'm kind of surprised I didn't come up with this independently.
Well not surprised, more...wistful.

Pallin' Around With Terrorists

Remember 'domestic terrorist' Bill Ayers? He wanted to destroy America, dement the youth, and launch Barak's political career all before lunch?

Yeah, he was in the 'Questions for...' section of the NYTimes Magazine this weekend.

It was pretty much what you'd expect (he wrote a book about ending white supremacy) but he does have one glimmering quote that I really hope is based in reality...

Q: ...you became newly famous last year, after Sarah Palin accused Obama of “pallin’ around with terrorists.” A: I did send her a note after the election. I suggested that we have a talk show together called “Pallin’ Around With Sarah and Bill.” I haven’t heard back.

I would watch that! I can take 'House' out of Tivo rotation in a second, that bisexual MS lady doctor gets on my nerve. Too many intense looks.

Bush Becomes Obama

8 long ass years ago when Bush was elected some hippies covered up all the signs for Bush St. in San Francisco with the word Puppet. I'm not sure who he was supposed to be a puppet of (Special interests? Oil companies? The DEVIL!) but I was 23 and I thought it was sooooooo cool.

In retrospect it was kind of lame because everyone in SF voted for mother fucking Ralph Nader which is how all these problems started in the 1st place. Oh Ralph how I long to sucker kidney punch you.

Well anyway, new administration, new set of pranksters and last night all the signs for Bush were pasted over with 'Obama'.
This time however, I approve, because I'm obsessed with new black President and because this picture from flickr is adorable!!!

Where do I get the big head Obamas shirt??????

Happy New Black President!!!

I'm sure it feels as surreal to you as it does to me.
The most surreal feeling is that I have nothing sarcastic to say, which is unnerving.

So lets all just hold hands (metaphorically, I'm alone in the office now) hum the 'America the Beautiful' and enjoy the NYTimes slide show.
Here's my faves:

1. The Obamas and Bidens waving good bye to the Bushes as they leave Washington

They're all, 'Don't let the door knob hit ya, where the dog shoulda bit ya!'

2. Aretha and her nonpareil hat show you how it's done!!!

In the immortal words of JayZ, 'You need to R E S P E C T me' Which is kind of similar to the way Aretha said it but it sounds a lot different coming out.

3. I kind of have a weird crush on Chuck Rangel

And now you do too!

Just for this January, those old dairy-hippies have changed the name of their butter pecan to 'Yes Pecan!' which is adorable. Though butter pecan is a disgusting flavor.

I'm sure if there was a Conservative ice cream conglomerate they'd rename their Cookies and Cream, 'Socialist Negro' or something offensive and then swear it was that one black guy who works there's idea.

Get it, Cookies and Cream, Oreos?
Was that already obvious?

Does This Make You Feel Less Safe???

From Gawker -
The lovely ladies of Barack's National Security team are short!!!

What if there's hand to hand combat?! How will they stare down Vald Putin?? What if the 3am call comes on a phone that's on a really high shelf?

But seriously, people...this gets a 'bitch please!' No one had a phone book, dictionary, milk crate or pair of Dansko's handy? This is your National Security team Barry, don't make them look like they just got up from the kiddie table in the kitchen.

You Better Work!

Obama-mania hits useless but highly readable rags!

I would, personally, be highly mortified to be on the cover of anything with my Dad as a preteen. Sorry Dad. Especially if all big over my belly it said, "I think I'm a pretty cool Dad."
However...I find this adorable.

This one's significantly less embarrassing, everyone looks well dressed and professional.

Aside: I wonder if Malia and Sasha will go to Sidwell Friends - that's the DC Quaker school that Chelsea Clinton and special correspondent Cormac went to. (Yes at the same time!!!)

Second Aside: Special Correspondent Cormac and I also went to college with Monica Lewinsky's brother. Monica was at Special Correspondent Cormac's graduation! That was in 1999 when such things were a BIG DEAL!

More Bama

I know that psychedandsuch has been very new black president heavy recently but to me it's basically the most exciting thing since Tivo. More exciting even.

So steele yourself for lots more Bama in the coming next zillion years. I will try to supplement as best as I can.

Down to business! The AP reports today that Barack is looking to immediately reverse Bush's executive orders on everything from stem cell research, and environmental policy to reinstating aid to overseas organizations that provide abortions (among other services). He's even talking about releasing or giving trials to all the prisoners at Guantanamo!

These are the kind of policies that can really bring a tear to a girl's eye.

I Now Pronounce You...Republican

I hate when THE MEDIA try to make up cat fights between blonds and brunettes, working mothers and stay at home mothers, young women and older women and especially between single women and married women.

HOWEVER (sorry I'm lovin' the caps today) US News and World Report today says that while 70% of single women (including shaked up, widowed and divorced) voted for Obama only 50% of married women did. I'm not trying to make a value judgment about voting McCain (though his policies are pretty anti woman) I just wonder what the reason for the discrepancy is. Do you just automatically become more conservative once you get married? I have no idea.

I do like that US News calls unmarried women, 'an important but often overlooked demographic'. I mean, 'Overall, 53 percent of the national electorate this year was female, according to exit poll data. Women overall voted 56 to 43 percent for Obama; men voted 49 to 48 percent for him.'

Just saying, if only men had been voting it could have gone either way. YOU'RE WELCOME AMERICA.

update: whoops! I was giving myself too much credit as an unmarried woman for swaying the vote because 52% of white women voted McCain, along with 57% of white men. Boo whiteys! And by extension, I suppose, boo me. I hate booing me.

Alright, Enough Serious-nicity

YES WE CAN eliminate the heartbreak of visible panty lines (VPL)
A proud day for America's lady laps.

Celebrate Like Kool and the Gang!

Huffpo's slide show of reactions to Obama's win from around the world.
I especially like this one from Obama, Japan. They're psyched!

Love, Obama Style

Huffpo's greatest Obama on Obama PDA moments.
I believe I've seen cuter but not all in one place.

The Shit becomes Shitty Enough to Put Aside Race

from the Onion -
Carrying a majority of the popular vote, Obama did especially well among women and young voters, who polls showed were particularly sensitive to the current climate of everything being fucked. Another contributing factor to Obama's victory, political experts said, may have been the growing number of Americans who, faced with the complete collapse of their country, were at last able to abandon their preconceptions and cast their vote for a progressive African-American. Citizens with eyes, ears, and the ability to wake up and realize what truly matters in the end are also believed to have played a crucial role in Tuesday's election.
