Adderall??

I've been pretty bi-curious about it since I read an interview Vice Magazine did with a Canadian farmer they'd given Adderall to. He not only did the work of 10 farmers but also some, 'stuff with my wife I hadn’t done in a long time.'

You know what I mean.

The thing about Vice is that they're stridently pro drugs all around. Their dating advice usually involves not only alcohol but blow and Viagra so I don't always trust them. Plus they're really judgy about women who don't wear heels.

For a more nuanced take (with less talk about certain sex acts that are gross to me) check out The New Yorker talkin' neuroenhansers.

Verdict: Still kind of want to take some Adderall. Who doesn't want to do the work of 10 women? Answer: Osama, he's a mysogonyst.

Lastly, I typed Adderall into Google to find a good picture and about eleventy billion online, no questions asked pharmacies popped up. Just fyi.

I Present to You...Tinnitus

Yeah I know that 'ringing in your ears' doesn't sound that interesting but this article on it in the New Yorker is kind of fascinating. There's brain scans, people!

Plus, I'm always facinated by stories of people who were totally normal and then bam!! Medical mystery and they're miserable. Like this guy:

"Last May, David Nowak, a sixty-four-year-old retired machine repairman, had an ear infection that his doctor treated with antibiotics. Shortly thereafter, he heard a loud horn in the street, and has been plagued by tinnitus ever since. ... Now, he said, “My life has come to a halt. I can’t do anything. I can’t concentrate.” One Sunday, he told me, he went out and stood by a metal flagpole during a storm, hoping that lightning would strike, and that he had gone to the cemetery and “begged my mother to take me. I wish I would pass away.”"

Aw! Sorry David.

And did you know, "...that hearing loss accompanying tinnitus is now the No. 1 cause of disability among veterans of the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq."

Boobs

Don't you love Dolly? She was the 1st thing that came to mind when I needed to illustrate breast feeding. You know, cause of her big boobs.

I got a little off track searching for photos of her but I really wanted to direct you to this article about the history of breastfeeding in the Western world. I know, it sounds like a total buzz kill but it's really interesting. Swear!

Did you know that at the turn of the 20th century racist scientists did 'experiments' to prove that white women's milk was less nutritious than black women?
What, why?? Because (of course) white women were more 'evolved'. Duh. Breast feeding was too animalistic for the average Gilded age snowflake.
Suddenly all the milk in all the white boobs in America 'dried up', and white women refused to breast feed. Till it became cool again, it's really weird.

But ugh, I made it even more of a buzz kill by bringing race into it didn't I?

Long Reads

If you have some time to kill, here's some VERY absorbing and very long articles-

You probably already heard about this month's Atlantic article that's a month by month (and sometimes week by week) break down of just exactly what the hell turned Hilary from a fait acompli into an embittered also-ran. If you haven't read it you should, let's just say, there were cooler heads on the campaign, but they NEVER prevaled. It also actually makes me fear Mark Penn in a way I really shouldn't since, you know, he's a stranger that lives 3000 miles away from me.
Awesome Mark Penn excerpt (about Obama): All of these articles about his boyhood in Indonesia and his life in Hawaii are geared towards showing his background is diverse, multicultural and putting that in a new light.
Save it for 2050.

Nice dude.

Then read this awesome New Yorker story about this french guy, Frederic Bourdin, who spent most of his life pretending to be a lost, abused, or runaway children. He takes it so far that one time, on the brink of being discovered he claims to be a missing Texas boy. Yeah he takes it so far that he goes and lives with the family for months even when it becomes pretty clear that the missing boy's mom and brother are probably behind his disapearance.

Check what happens when he gets found out, at 30 (!) and calling himself Francisco, for impersonating a lost and abused 15yr old -
When the police arrived, Chadourne sent the assistant principal to summon Francisco from class. As Francisco entered Chadourne’s office, the police seized him and thrust him against the wall, causing her to panic: what if he really was an abused orphan? Then, while handcuffing Bourdin, the police removed his baseball cap. There were no scars on his head; rather, he was going bald. “I want a lawyer,” he said, his voice suddenly dropping to that of a man.

It's awesome!
